Changes to the Chase

Today at the State of the Sport address, NASCAR announced the changes to the Chase for the Championship. Sixteen drivers will enter the Chase which will still start at Chicagoland in the fall. 15 of the top 16 will be race winners from the first 26 races that are in the top 30 in points. The 16th driver will be the points leader after the first 26 races if they do not have a win. Points will reset to 2,000 with 3 bonus points awarded for each race win. After Dover positions 13-16 will be eliminated from the Chase & points will reset to 3,000 for the top 12. After Talladega positions 9-12 will be eliminated & points will be reset to 4,000 for the top 8. After Phoenix positions 5-8 will be eliminated and points will reset to 5,000 for the top 4. In the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway the first of the remaining 4 drivers to cross the finish line will win the Sprint Cup.
