Genesee Beer to be on No. 32 at Watkins Glen International

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Genesee Brewing Co. announced that it will be the primary sponsor for Go Green Racing's No. 32 Ford Fusion driven by racing legend Boris Said at Watkins Glen this August.

Genesee will sponsor the team for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkin's Glen on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Watkin's Glen International is one of only two road racing tracks in the country.

According to Matt Goldman, channel marketing manager for Genesee, the beer company is thrilled to be a primary sponsor at The Glen for the fourth consecutive year. "We're excited to bring Genesee back to the Glen with a racing legend like Boris Said. Genesee has enjoyed incredible popularity among NASCAR fans, so we welcome the chance to connect with them once again this summer. "

The No. 32 Ford Fusion's paint scheme reflects Genesee's new heritage-inspired packaging that recently rolled out across its family of products. The 137-year-old brewing company is New York State's oldest brewery. Its long history of quality beer holds a special place in the hearts of its passionate fans.

"Genesee fans bring such enthusiasm and fun to race weekend," said Boris. "We hope local fans will come out to cheer us on and watch us race. The new Genesee packaging inspired this year's paint and it's never looked better!"

Team owner Archie St. Hilaire said, "Go Green Racing really enjoys working with local partners on these Sprint Cup Races, and we are excited to do the same with Genesee this August at Watkins Glen."(Go Green Racing/Genesee Brewing)

What Kyle Busch needs to do to make Chase

Heading into Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, Kyle Busch is 39th in points, 173 points behind 30th-place Justin Allgaier. If Allgaier keeps accumulating points at his current rate, he'll have roughly 435 points when the regular-season ends. That, in turn, means that to catch Allgaier, Busch will have to average a 12th-place finish in the next 11 races. Considering that in the four races Busch has run since returning from a compound fracture of the lower right leg and a midfoot fracture of the left foot, his average finish is 24.75, it's safe to say Busch has his work cut out for him. Plus Busch has to win a race.(FoxSports)

NSCS Recap: Kurt Busch wins at Michigan when rain halts NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race

BROOKLYN, Mich. – Starting 24th in a backup car, Kurt Busch fought his way to the front of the field through intermittent rain showers and won Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway when a deluge halted the race after 138 of a scheduled 200 laps.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second when NASCAR red-flagged the event for the fourth time. Martin Truex Jr. was credited with third, followed by Matt Kenseth and Penske teammates Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski.

The victory was Busch’s second of the season. He won for the third time at Michigan and for the 27th time in his career.

"It’s an unbelievable feeling to know what we went through, paced ourselves, and found the lead toward the latter part of the race when the rain came in," Busch said in Victory Lane.

"You know what’s more special about this? Winning in Chevrolet’s backyard. That’s what’s most important about winning in Michigan, so thanks to Chevrolet."

That his team had put in extra hours to ready a backup car after Busch hit the wall in Friday’s opening practice was not lost on the winning driver.

"Yeah, you have to get down and dirty," Busch said. "You have to really roll-up your sleeves, get your elbows dirty, and put the work into it. And (crew chief) Tony Gibson makes these guys work a little extra hard.

"I always say thanks. I’m always there early with them. And it’s a great team chemistry feel."

Busch grabbed the lead for the first time on Lap 133 when Kyle Larson’s gas-mileage gamble came up short and the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet was forced to pit road for fuel just as a storm cell was advancing toward the speedway.

Busch had pushed Larson to the lead after a restart on Lap 130, but Larson hadn’t gotten fuel since Lap 88, and crew chief Chris Heroy was gambling that the rain would arrive before Larson ran out of gas. As it turned out, the rain came three laps too late for Heroy’s strategy to bear fruit.

The heavy thunderstorm arrived on Lap 136, forcing NASCAR to throw a caution and then to red-flag the race for the fourth time two laps later, with Busch out.(Ried Spencer, NASCAR Media)

PIR to be renamed in honor of Jeff Gordon for fall race

Phoenix International Raceway is about to become Jeff Gordon Raceway. For one day. PIR will honor the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion by formally renaming the 1-mile oval in his name for the Nov. 15 Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500, azcentral sports has learned. Gordon, who has four career PIR wins, says he doesn't plan to drive after this season, which would make Phoenix his penultimate race. An official announcement is expected Friday. "We were thinking of it like an athlete getting the keys to the city," PIR President Bryan Sperber said. "It (the idea) took off from there. Starting with the quirky layout of our track, it seems like Phoenix always does things a little different.(Arizona Republic)

Kyle Busch returns to the #54 at Michigan

This week at Michigan International Speedway, Kyle Busch returns to the seat of the #54 Monster Energy Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry, after recuperating from injuries sustained in the season-opener race that left Busch out of his familiar black machine for 11 weeks. At the beginning of the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series schedule, Busch sustained a compound fracture of the right lower leg and a mid-foot fracture of his left foot in an accident during the Feb. 21 XFINITY Series race at Daytona International Speedway. While Busch returned to racetrack action four weeks ago at Charlotte Motor Speedway, in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, this week will be Busch's first XFINITY Series attempt since February. Future scheduled races for Busch, after the Michigan event, are not yet confirmed.(Joe Gibbs Racing)

NSCS Recap: Martin Truex Jr. wins at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, Pa. – Martin Truex Jr. knew that his third career victory would come – eventually.

Enjoying easily the finest season of his NASCAR career, Truex raced to a convincing win in Sunday’s Axalta "We Paint Winners" 400, leading 97 of 160 laps, including the final 27 at Pocono Raceway.

His victory marked the third consecutive Sprint Cup race in which Truex led the most laps. He’d led 131 laps at both Charlotte and Dover, only to come home fifth and sixth in the last two weeks.

"We finally got it," said Truex, who had registered top-10 finishes in 12 of the first 13 races this season. "We've had a great season. We have had everything it has taken to win races (and) we just hadn’t got it done.

"This team deserves to win and I’ve known that all year long. Throughout my career I’ve kind of gotten used to disappointment, honestly, and I’ve learned to deal with those days where it didn’t go your way, even though you didn’t do anything wrong."

The victory ended Truex’s 69-race winless skid. A long time coming, it was popular in the garage – even with his fiercest rivals – for multiple reasons.

Truex drives for Furniture Row Racing, a bit of an outlier in the racing world as a single-car team based in Denver. Sunday’s Sprint Cup victory was the second ever for Furniture Row and owner Barney Visser, who also won at Darlington with driver Regan Smith in the 2011 Southern 500.

After winning consecutive NASCAR XFINITY Series titles, Truex, 34, had bounced around, from Dale Earnhardt Inc. to Michael Waltrip Racing, where it looked like he might have found a home. Then came the second Richmond race of 2013 in which Truex had seemingly raced his way into the Chase – only to have his team penalized out of the picture. He then lost his ride when MWR was compelled to consolidate.

Prior to Sunday, he’d managed only two Sprint Cup victories -- at Dover in 2007 and Sonoma in 2013.

But even his on-track travails paled in comparison to those of his long-time girlfriend Sherry Pollex, who battled cancer in 2014 – a year in which Truex managed to lead only one lap all season. If that wasn’t enough, Truex lost his grandmother this week.

It was Sherry who told Truex to have faith and dig deep after the frustration of 2013 and that everything would work out.

"I kind of believed her," Truex said. "I just knew it was going to take a lot of work. I knew it was going to be a tough road. … I felt really fortunate that there was a great ride open with the (Furniture Row) 78 … Then Sherry’s situation happened and it was like: All right, this is when you show people what you’re made of. She showed me what she was made of and it was like, wow, if she can do that, I can do this.

"It never gets any better than this. It takes time to heal things, especially with what Sherry and I went through. This just kind of makes you forget all about it. I just feel super-blessed to be with this group of guys. I’m just proud to drive cars for them and proud that Sherry is here, healthy. She is as excited as I am and everything is going well for her."(Seth Livingstone, NASCAR Media)

Pocono to install video screen towers

LONG POND, PA (June 5, 2015) – Pocono Raceway announced today two new video screen towers will be installed at the track. Each tower will feature two high-definition quality video screens to provide all fans with new visuals of live action, entertainment, real-time statistics, and fan engagement.

The new video towers are being designed, engineered, installed and operated by ANC Sports Enterprises, LLC, a full service technology service provider specializing in designing video display systems. Most recently, ANC designed and integrated the Cleveland Cavaliers scoreboard, which is the largest arena center-hung scoreboard in the country and the Seattle Mariners, the largest high-definition display in Major League Baseball. Pocono Raceway will be the first major NASCAR track to feature ANC’s award-winning technology.

“Our fans are racing fanatics and the video displays will provide new views of the race and leaderboard information which previously were not available,” stated Brandon Igdalsky, Raceway President and CEO. “Additionally, ANC’s technology will enable unique opportunities such as fan engagement and dynamic entertainment.”

The video screens will stand on the top of two new 60’ standalone structures. Each of the four video screens will measure 24.15’ high by 30.45’ wide. Specifically designed for the tricky-triangle, the double-sided displays will stand at either side of pit row, providing fans in the grandstand, club boxes or camping in the infield with a clear view of one of the sides of displays.

“Designing video systems for professional sports venues for more than 15 years, we are excited to bring our expertise to racing with this new Pocono Raceway partnership,” said Jerome Cifarelli, president and chief executive officer, ANC Sports. “We believe our technologies and post-installation services will help Pocono Raceway transform the racing experience.”

The displays will be driven by ANC’s award-winning vSOFT™ control system, enabling them to feature content separately or to synchronize together to create an immersive experience. As part of a multi-year partnership, ANC will operate the display system on behalf of Pocono Raceway, as well as create all the layouts and content for the screens.(Pocono Raceway)

NASCAR monitoring fuel cooling

NASCAR is looking at monitoring the cooling of fuel after #41-Kurt Busch's team was asked to remove heat shields from its fuel during Sunday's race. "That's something we continue to look at, and with the heat in Dover, it was unbelievably hot, but that's something we have to continue to monitor anytime we're dealing with fuel," [NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve] O'Donnell said. "You know we've had some incidents on pit road where we've taken some reactive measures from a safety standpoint. We'll sit down (Tuesday) and walk through that and look at the upcoming schedule and see what may or may not be happening on pit road as we go forward."(NBC Sports)

Bayne called to NASCAR hauler after race

NASCAR met with Trevor Bayne after Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway because he exited his car before safety crews arrived - the second time a driver violated the rule this weekend. Jennifer Jo Cobb met with Camping World Truck Series officials Friday after taking 12 steps on to the racing surface to gesture toward Tyler Reddick after an accident. Penalties are expected this week. Bayne was involved in an accident with Michael Annett and Justin Allgaier on Sunday that brought out the caution on Lap 176. Bayne exited his car before he was cleared by any safety crew members. "Our on-track incidents, we've been very clear on what we expect," said Richard Buck, Cup series director said. Buck said that officials will continue their conversation with Bayne this week.(NBC Sports)

NSCS Race Recap: Jimmie Johnson Wins 10th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race At Dover

DOVER, Del.—Jimmie Johnson, welcome to the club.

With his overtime victory in Sunday’s FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway, Johnson became the fifth driver to win 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at a single track, joining Richard Petty, David Pearson, Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Sr. in sharing that distinction.

Johnson’s triumph was his series-best fourth of the season and the 74th of his career, eighth most all-time and two behind NASCAR Hall of Famer Earnhardt in seventh place.

Unlike many of the six-time champion’s past victories at the Monster Mile, this was not a dominating performance by the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Johnson led but 23 laps, and didn’t take the top spot until he beat race runner-up Kevin Harvick to the stripe for a restart on Lap 383.

Johnson quickly cleared Harvick and led the rest of the way, but not before a caution for a wreck involving Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch slowed the field on Lap 386. At that point, Johnson and Harvick were the only two drivers to stay out on old tires, but Johnson was able to maintain control of the race on the subsequent restart on Lap 391.

He repeated the performance during a green-white-checkered-flag finish that took the event five laps past its posted distance of 400, after a wreck involving Greg Biffle, Casey Mears and AJ Allmendinger produced the seventh caution on Lap 398 and forced the overtime.

After the final restart on Lap 404, Johnson crossed the finish line .435 seconds ahead of Harvick, who posted his ninth top-2 finish in 13 races this season and extended his series lead to 44 points over sixth-place finisher Martin Truex Jr.

Johnson said he was able to maintain the lead on old tires "just driving hard and working that track bar adjuster as much as I could.

"I was trying to be smart with my line and I guess guys on two tires weren’t all that fast. (Crew chief) Chad (Knaus) said something to me about that on the radio, and they never really came, you know? The No. 4 (Harvick) and I did just fine on old tires and held those guys off."(Ried Spencer, NASCAR Media)
